This weekend, the hubs and I hit up the Brunch Run 5k in Piedmont Park, along with Mary and a few other friends you may recognize – and less than 500 other people.
The bRUNch 5k (get it, get it?!), as it is also called, is a small run with a 500-person limit benefitting Open Hand. But, it was too novel to pass up, and I am sure its founders knew it would be! Besides, they love Settlers of Catan, too, so I guess I’ll give them a pass.
The course was a serpentine jaunt through Atlanta’s scenic Piedmont Park. Through most of the race you could see other runners, either ahead of or behind you, running on a different levels, due to the meandering route – kinda cool.
The race had a timer, but wasn’t officially timed by tags. There was some water provided, but not quite where we had heard it was supposed to be. Also, the tagline of the race is “Bolt for your Bacon” but there was no bacon involved in the brunch.
However, brunch was tasty, so that’s okay. There were breakfast burritos, with vegan, vegetarian, carnivore options. The carnivore option had ham, potatoes, onions, peppers, cheese, and egg. There was also hot and iced coffee available, though we ran out of creamer/milk and I couldn’t find any sweetener. *single le tear for not being able to make cafe con leche*
After brunching, we went to a different part of the lawn for a plethora of raffling. There were several rounds of nifty prizes, and Mary got a gift card to The Flying Biscuit Cafe! Fun times.
At thirty dollars, it seemed a bit pricey to not have a D-tag or a T-shirt, but the race was still a good one. Running through piedmont Park was fun and pleasant (plus no running in the street)! The small number of participants was nice, too. The large runs are awe-inspiring, but they can be chaotic and crowded. The extended raffles were fun, too. If they ditch the mug and just gave out T-shirts like everyone else, they can definitely expect to see us next year!
