Bacon Week

What is Bacon Week?

If you google “Bacon Week”, you’ll find a whole slew of pages and dates that range all throughout the year.  It seems that there is no official and global date or reason for Bacon Week, so I didn’t feel the least bit guilty throwing my hat into the ring – as far as I’m concerned, my reasons are just as awesome as anybody else’s – not that simply spending a week with bacon wouldn’t be reason enough.

In Atlanta, my hometown, there’s a comedy club named Dad’s Garage that hosts improv, puts on hilarious plays, and generally shows everyone in the city a grand old time.  In 2011 they held their first (as far as I know) BaconFest, where for anywhere from $25 to $95 you could buy a ticket and spend an afternoon eating bacon, drinking beer, and generally carousing to raise money for Dad’s Garage’s next year of life.  My buddy Steven and I were immediately sold, so we snagged tickets and prepared ourselves.

Because it seemed like too good of a blogging opportunity to pass up, I dubbed the entire week preceding Bacon Fest “Bacon Week” in which I posted a new bacon recipe every day, culminating in a post on the actual Bacon Fest event itself.  Good times were had, many a bacon was ingested, and Dad’s Garage stayed alive for another year.

To be clear, I have no actual affiliation with Dad’s Garage and I don’t get paid to do this or anything; it’s just a tradition I started for kicks, and I like supporting local comedy with a week of pro-bacon blogging.

So that’s the n00bcakes version of Bacon Week, and I love it when anybody else participates – it’s good fun for everyone.  So come on down at the end of March – if Dad’s Garage is doing BaconFest, then we’re doing Bacon Week!
