Long Weekend In Fairhope, AL

View from the pier at the end of the street.

Adam and I, along with Ash and Steve were thrilled to go to Fairhope, Alabama last weekend to spend a four-day weekend enjoying the area and attending the wedding of our longtime friends, Kris and Michelle. We had a great time, and the wedding was absolutely stunning – though I left my camera in the car and have no evidence of my own to share.

A special thanks to the AsianCajuns for turning me on to airbnb. Last year, they did a post with pictures of a stunning flat they rented in Paris through airbnb, which I suddenly remembered while planning this trip. Through airbnb, we found the perfect place to stay: The Cabbage Patch Guest House. This charming, affordable cottage was the perfect base of operations for us!

There was a mostly private pier – just for the residents of the street that we could walk to and take a dip. It was also within quick walking distance of a variety of shops, restaurants, and the rest of downtown Fairhope’s offerings. We had a good time shopping there.

The view from inside…. so serene!
A view down the shore from the pier.
Precious house and garden nearby.
We were also about to take the 45 minute drive to Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, which is a lovely, less-crowded beach on the Gulf, where we spent a relaxing morning walking down the beach and looking at the shells and little beach creatures. I also got my first jellyfish sting, which wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be!
Here are some borrowed photos to show you the wedding:

So pretty!
Me dancing with a little friend who pluckily decided to tap in – cute.

Congratulations, dear Kris and Michelle! Wishing you many years of health and happiness! (And thanks for the excuse to have a vacation!)
