The Buford Highway Food Expedition is back in action in 2013, starting with Chateau De Saigon! We’d actually gone to this vietnamese restaurant already, towards the end of last year, but the holidays got int he way, and I seem to have lost (deleted) the images we took at that time, and eventually we forgot most of the things we wanted to say. So, I had to go back, and I was pissed off about it, which is part of the reason why BHFE languished at the end of 2012. But I did it, and we’re back in business!
Chateau De Saigon is the most up-scale vietnamese restaurant we’ve been to on BuHi – with fancier decor and whatnot than even Nam Phuong.
Last time we went we got a dinner for two, with sweet and sour catfish soup clay pot fish and steamed chicken. It was $25.95, and while it was tasty, we weren’t particularly wowed. With the drinks and such, it seemed expensive.
This time, we started with an appetizer of julienne pork rolls. $2.95. Much like other spring rolls from other viet restaurants, fresh and tasty.
The hubs ordered Saigon yellow noodle soup.$7.50. It wasn’t a noodle soup that was yellow colored, but rather a soup with noodles that were themselves quite yellow. An interesting surprise, and a tasty dish.
I went for the Chateau de Saigon equivalent of the meal that I gushed over at Da Loi #2 – the combination platter of the vermicelli noodle dish (bun dac biet chateau de saigon). It was the vermicelli noodles, veggies, peanuts, and grilled tofu, pork, and shrimp. I believe it was around $9. The non-combination ones were not as expensive.
The service wasn’t particularly friendly, helpful, or timely, but it wasn’t awful. Overall the meal seemed more reasonably priced to us this time. Despite being the one of the nicest on the inside, there just really anything about the food, pricing, or service that makes Chateau de Saigon stand out one way or another from other restaurants, vietnamese or otherwise. Three stars.
