Stand Mixers and Cheesecake

I almost bought a stand mixer today.

One of the things I’ve read frequently in my baking research is that of all kitchen appliances, nothing really beats a good stand mixer.  I know this is supposed to be a blog for noobs and slackers – and I will still vouch that anything I make can be done with a hand mixer – but if I’m going to do this with any sort of regularity, I think I’m going to splurge on a stand mixer.  Plus, I love kitchen gadgets. >.>

Anyway, it was very exciting.  Out with my mother on an infrequent shopping expedition, we took a detour to Kohls to check out their KitchenAid stand mixer prices.  Apparently with the sales they were having plus coupons my mother happened to have from the mail, it was very possible that their stand mixer prices were reasonable.  Unfortunately, the way Kohls tots up their coupons didn’t make the mixer cheaper than buying one from Amazon.  Instead of adding the % off coupons and then taking the price off, they take the percentages off one by one, making the discount useless to me (USELESS!).

Little Fella

Key Lime Little Fella

Alas.  I was a little sad, but now at least I know Amazon probably has the best prices I’m going to find, so if I want to buy one, I should just suck it up and do it online.  I can already see the little moths floating out of my wallet…

Since I did not purchase a stand mixer today, I decided it was within my budget to instead find some sort of baking magazine to fill the hole were a baking-related product should be.  I found, to my delight, a magazine on cheesecake, created by the (apparently) famous New York restaurant, Junior’s.

What made me actually purchase the magazine, though, were the restaurant’s cupcake-sized cheesecakes, also called “Little Fellas”.  Being on a cupcake kick these days I figured it would be a perfect new thing to try out sometime.

Be on the lookout for some tasty Little Fellas sometime in the future!

Formerly of both n00bcakes and !Blog, the two magically become one on Spatialdrift; expect some lazy baking and serious nerditude. Also, I love semicolons.
