Southern Sweets

I recently visited Decatur’s own Southern Sweets with Mary of n00bcakes. I had never been before, but had heard great things about them from Decaturites. They are tucked back in an industrial district, but boy are they worth the search! Once back home, I took some pictures of the goodies we were about to partake of, and Mary graciously used them on her n00bcakes  review of Southern Sweets. You should definitely check out the review, because my only helpful comment along those lines is this: “Pricey but tasty!”

As with the last time I took photos for Mary, I really don’t feel that they were my best work, but I would really like to keep practicing my so-called styling skills and brushing up on my previously forsaken finer points of photography. Hopefully Mary won’t give up on me before I get better! 😀

Anyway, here are the shots:

Tiramisu layer cake

“Old Fashion”ed chocolate cake – so delicious. And vegan!

No one can take appetizing photos of bread pudding. That’s what I am telling myself right now!

Raspberry Shortbread. Le boring picture, sorry!

All of our tasty noms together.

Well there they are. The lighting at the time was pretty poopy, but I didn’t do as much as I could or should have to compensate – either with the camera’s settings or the physical surroundings. I learned a lesson!

I did another shoot for Mary this morning, and while I still don’t think I’ve achieved the pinnacle of food photography, but I think it is a definite step in the right direction! Stay tuned to n00bcakes or wait for me to post here!

Southern sweets has a lovely, quirky space in a kind of industrial area, and though the prices seem high, it’s definitely backed up by quality!
