My First 5k: Firefly Run

I took up running (with some sort of regularity) this year. Running with the hubs and my best friend really helped get me out of bed and moving. The crowning achievement of six months or so of running was the 5k Firefly Run Atlanta, an illuminated night run, this past weekend.

I was a little too busy running to take pictures, though that may be a goal for next year. But here are some pictures that Vasili took of us.

The runners! Let’s go!

Heading down to the start…. with the other 2000+ folks there.

The race went well. We all ran at our own pace, which lead to the interesting experience of running “alone” with 2,000 other people. There were neat costumes, funny-short-gasping conversations with strangers, and high-fives from people on the sidelines or stuck in their cars on Piedmont.

My time was 36:44.36 1021st place (out of 2255)! I am clearly no champion, but I had a lot of fun.

There were more events after the race, including some dub-stepping, but we had to dash off to Flux – more on that later!

Here’s an extremely blurry, hazy photo of Vasili, Mary and I dashing.
