Meat Week: Heirloom Market

Meat Week has been all this week friends – have you been participating?

Unfortunately for me Saturday was the only day I was able to partake in delicious meat-ing, but the day I chose was an excellent one.

Heirloom Market

Heirloom Market

Heirloom Market is a little hole-in-the-wall place down the road from my apartment, so on Saturday I donned my Meat Week t-shirt, rounded up a bunch of friends and lead the trek down there for some delicious BBQ.  This place is co-run by 2 chefs, one a Tennessee boy, the other a South Korean former pop star sensation (no, seriously).  The result?  Delicious traditional barbeque with additional touches of Korean flair.  Super-duper tasty.  Also, they have killer mac and cheese.  Just sayin.

BBQ Sauces

Oh, Options!

In addition to the meat itself being super tasty at Heirloom, they’ve also got a handfull of sauces to try, which I think is always a hallmark of a good BBQ place.  I actually think I missed the Settler sauce, but did get to try the Korean, Hotlanta, and Table sauces.  I hate to be lame, but I think I liked the Table sauce the best; it had a really nice sweet and stable flavor for a sandwich or for just pouring over your pork.  Hotlanta was, naturally, a spicier choice, and the Korean was sweeter and tangier.  I should go back sometime and make sure I’ve tried all 4 of these thoroughly, though.  For science.

Korean Sammich

I went with a basic pulled pork plate for my meal, but my friend Emily snagged that day’s special – some sort of Korean BBQ sandwich with sweet Korean potatoes.  Looks amazing, right?  I was pretty impressed by most of the presentation at this place, actually; having only grabbed sandwiches on the run from there in the past I never realized they put work into the foods’ looks as well.  I saw multiple plates with a classy garnish or a bun at a jaunty angle to display its innards before consumption.  Very cool.

Our time at Heirloom was very well spent, feasting on delicious food and meeting our cool Atlanta Chapter leaders, Tracy and Jeff, along with other Meat Week participants.  Of camaraderie, there was much.

And now, some embarrassing pictures of people eating messy food.

Chewing...

Adam really looks unnecessarily sad in this picture.  Cheer up, Charlie!

Many fries, handle it.

I love a table strewn with glass bottled sodas, plastic silverware, and giant rolls of napkins.  /contented sigh

Meat Closeup

Meat is srs business.

I love this picture.  I really feel like it requires a caption.

All that to say, it was a fun and delicious experience!  The people at Heirloom also treated us really well; they made it known that we were welcome guests and gave us control of the outside patio – it was very cool of them.

Our trek back up the hill to my apartment was a trying one, but probably a good decision considering all we’d eaten.  There were many stomach grumbles and human groans on the way back, but we all made it in one piece, if a bit meat-sweaty (yes, gross).  We did take some time to collapse rest upon our return, however.

So...tired.

Zzzz.

Did you get an opportunity to hook up with your Meat Week chapter, or otherwise join in?  Do tell!

Formerly of both n00bcakes and !Blog, the two magically become one on Spatialdrift; expect some lazy baking and serious nerditude. Also, I love semicolons.

  1. Still no official Meat Week bidness here. To top it off, my boyfriend’s vegetarian family visited us this weekend:)

But as soon as they left, we fried up some mad bacon. And then, since we were forced to go out to watch the Superbowl as we don’t get that channel – oh darn – I was able to enjoy some pulled pork and hot wings.

Looks like you had a sick feast !

  2. Bummer that there was no Meet Week for you, but hooray for bacon! We would’ve welcomed y’all with BBQ-covered arms. 😀
