Grenada II

Life is still moving along, and with it, filling out Christmas cards. I mean, my photo organization project. Grenada has been especially hard, because I have a lot of repeating, overlapping, scattered and incorrectly dated photos. The conversation between my camera and my computer was garbled, apparently.

Almost all the islanders make their living by their own means. A family runs a tourist shop for this waterfall, and a group of young men do trick jumps off the cliff into the water below for money.
Subsistence farming.

The dump. Everything that can be burned is. The stuff that can’t sits there smoking.
The water was just gorgeous. Glad I didn’t step on any urchins.
Sunset with fishing boats.
A public service announcement from me on June 3, 2010. Drinking in the vehicle and even while driving is legal in Grenada. Apparently there are very few problems with drinking and driving.
Cane Toad. Don’t lick it.
There is a lot of old hurricane damage on the island. Everyone uses this road, I guess the sign is just there to cover someone’s ass.
This is a snapshot I took from the car. The guy on the left has a glass of water balanced on his head and the other guy is trying to knock it off by bumping the guy with his stomach. Too awesome.
Trying some photography in the pitch black on Levera Beach. No lights other than dim red bulbs (like in darkrooms) are allowed during the summer months so there are no distractions for the mama turtles, or the babies.

Mama turtle heading back to sea. She spent a good bit of time and energy laying false tracks. To be safe, volunteers rake the beaches every morning at dawn so locals don’t dig up the eggs and eat them.

We slept on the beach and were awoken rudely the next morning by incredibly cold rain around 6 am. We all ran around like crazy packing things up. I snapped a few quick pics, but in my disorientation, I didn’t change the settings form the night before. Kind of a cool effect.
Just look at that water.
Just look at that… everything. Especially the flamboyan (red blossoms). Love that tree.
Sunset on our last day.
We found a friend driving around the island on the last night – the elusive Grenadian Tree Boa.

I miss Grenada. I miss vacations. I miss the summer. The end.
