El Potro Mexican Restaurant

This week we were joined by Vasilios! Hooray! Next up on BuHi was El Potro.

El potro translates to “the colt,” so unsurprisingly, there was a bit of a horse theme going on.

I dig the sign.

This place was probably the most commercial mexican joint we’ve gone to (excluding Pollo Campero of course). It has a large outdoor patio crammed (seriously it’s tight maneuvering out there) with booths. It’s shaded and looks like it’d be quite pleasant. We elected to sit inside where there’d be a little more leg room.

You can see part of the patio through the large glass window, behind Adam drinking his margarita.
After hemming and hawing a bit on what to order, we started with a $13.00 pitcher of margaritas (cheap!).
Some of the interior seating area.
Vasili! Oh, and the bar area behind him.
Vasili ordered something that may have been called quesadilla relleno. You can see it int he photo below – a kind of meat pocket with guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes and onions, and a side of rice. It was around $7.95.

Adam ordered something he can’t recall the name of but was basically tortillas covered in ranchero sauce and steak, with a side of rice and an incredibly hot jalepeno. ~$7.95

I ordered the enchiladas special. It might be called something else. It comprised four enchiladas – beef, chicken, beans and cheese. ~$6.95. I blame the pitcher of margaritas for none of us remembering the titles of our dishes, and having to approximate the prices. Or maybe it was sameness of it all…
Teh foodz.
We all thought our food was fine enough, just very average. The prices were okay, but we didn’t feel like we were getting incredible value for our money. The margarita pitcher, while being cheap, was not terribly good. All in all El Potro seemed quite average, though I will acknowledge that the patio might be very nice for sitting with drinks. I mean it has 4.5 stars on Google, so someone must have been impressed. It just wasn’t us. Nothing to write home about, but nothing bad either. 3 stars.

  1. I know you're calling this average, E, but I would seriously give my pinky finger for some cheese-covered bland-ish tex mex right now. Hopefully by the time you guys come to visit, I'll have found something 😉
    Yum, yum, nom!
